  • Saskatoon was officially founded in 1883 as a Temperance Colony with settlers from the east searching for Utopia. We believe they found it!
  • Saskatoon is one of the New World’s oldest settlements, with artifacts dating back 6,000 years found just north of the city.
  • The Northwest Rebellion of 1885, led by Louis Riel, occurred 90 km north of Saskatoon.
  • Saskatoon was called "the Paris of the Prairies" by Gordon Downey of The Tragically Hip, for its proliferation of musicians, artists, writers and poets who call Saskatoon home.
  • Designated the 2006 Cultural Capital of Canada by the Department of Canadian Heritage.
